Poor ball girl asked to catch huge bug at the Australian Open 2012

Night bugs have been a problem at the Australian Open this year and one poor ball girl had to face up to her clear phobia and remove one so that play could continue. During the match between home favourite Lleyton Hewitt and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe, an unwanted insect invader became the centre of attention as Stebe asked for the bug to be removed before continuing. It was left to a ball girl to run over and catch the bug and she couldn't throw it away quick enough after finishing a job she clearly did not enjoy. When her brave effort was shown to the fans on the big screen they gave her a huge cheer - and she flashed back an embarrassed smile. Serena Williams would certainly have some sympathy for the poor girl, as she has already requested not to be put on any more night matches if possible so she can avoid the nocturnal bugs. "Bugs fell on my back twice," said Serena after her first-round win over Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. "I hate bugs more than you can imagine. I hate bugs. Like, they kept jumping on me. Yuck! "So I'm going to request not to play at night any more because I hate bugs, except for the final." The insects descend on Melbourne Park in the evenings, attracted by the stadium lights, with players constantly flicking them off the court or batting them away with their racquets.
